ID-10089855LinkedIn isn’t talked about as much as the other social platforms, but it is still an important one that can teach you a lot about business. Lots of articles are available that describe how to make a successful LinkedIn page, but there aren’t a whole lot of things that describe how to avoid the mistakes that many people make. So with that in mind, we present to you a couple of valuable steps to avoiding painful mistakes on LinkedIn.

Giving Because You Want to Receive

On LinkedIn, you can write recommendation for companies that will then be displayed on their general profiles. Companies can review companies, and individuals can review companies as well. This is an excellent feature, but you shouldn’t expect a review in return when you send one out yourself.

Let’s say you work on AC units. Someone calls you really late at night, but because you know how to do your job, you go over and fix their AC and that triggers an excellent review on LinkedIn. However, if that client then asks you to write a review for them, that’s where the problem is. You don’t know that person professionally, and even if you did, there’s no reason to write a recommendation because they asked.

You Don’t Ever Give

Networking is based on giving things to people who need them, and it’s not always about getting. If you want to make friends with someone, go check out their profile, leave a few comments, click some boxes, and make sure they know you exist. You don’t need them to do the same in return – you’re doing it because you want them to know who you are, not because you want them to smother your profile in positivity as well.
